PC and Internet Security

The Internet is actually a dangerous place and the security of your PC is constantly at risk. Drive-by Downloads, Botnets, browser exploits, software exploits and spam are some of the tools that malicious attacker use to take over our computers and even our own identity.

You are at risk even if you feel that you are just a common person accessing the Internet for simple things like checking your e-mail or browsing just a few of your favorite websites. Maybe you don't even bank or shop online and are protected with an Anti-Virus software so why would you be at such risk.

The answer to that is simple: The bad guys don't care about that. They want your computer for their own purposes, and those purposes are financial gain. If they can control your computer it could be used as part of a botnet to send thousands of spam messages per day or even record your keystrokes while you enter your passwords.

The current threat trends reveals that a greater percentage of malware will be hosted even on so-called trusted websites, spam will continue to be an avenue of distribution of malware and social-engineering will expand; everyone that uses the Internet is at risk.

The Threat Level: Orange blog seeks to keep it's readers informed about current threats and safe computing practices to keep you and your computer safe.

I believe we should not allow ourselves to become complacent about our security, at no time should we believe that the threat level is green because we have the latest anti-virus updates or are behind a firewall. At the same time no matter what is rampaging across the Internet should we feel that the threat level has increased to red because we have adequately taken measures to safe-guard ourselves, therefore, we remain at Threat Level: Orange, aware, responsible and protected.
